CELEBRATING SILENT CINEMA
With the amazing success of the Oscar winning ‘The Artist’, there has been a sudden rise in the interest in silent Cinema. We present a varied selection that covers some of the milestones of this period including comedy (Buster Keaton), expressionism and romance (Sunrise), and Soviet experimentation and montage (Eisenstein). Our highlights include Lon Chaney’s ‘Phantom of the Opera’ with live organ accompaniment in St. John’s Chapel, and the new digital restoration of Hitchcock’s most famous silent film ‘The Lodger’, supported with an illustrated talk by Ian Christie.
