Chichester Cinema at New Park

To complement the ’Surreal Friends’ exhibitions (19 Jun-12 Sep) at Pallant House Gallery, Chichester Cinema at New Park will present a series of related films and illustrated talks from July to September including the19th Chichester International Film Festival (19 Aug-5 Sep).

Pallant House Gallery will host concurrent exhibitions of three women Surrealists: British painter Leonora Carrington, and her two close friends, Spanish painter Remedios Varo and Hungarian photographer Kati Horna, who met in Mexico City in 1943. The related films will celebrate some of the major themes of the exhibitions such as Surrealism in Paris and Mexico; the Spanish Civil War; War refugees in Mexico; the Bicentenary of Mexican Independence from Spain; and the Centenary of the Mexican Revolution. We hope to include some rare Mexican films as well as more popular fare. Complementary documentaries will be shown at the Gallery.
