After demobilisation from the Army in 1946, Dirk Bogarde’s career developed in three overlapping phases: first, as the actor who would star in more than 60 films; then, in the late ’70s, as the author of 15 bestselling volumes of memoirs and novels; and finally, as the creator of an invariably sold-out ‘one-man show’ which he toured to promote his books. A unique perspective on this remarkable working life is provided by Brock Van den Bogaerde, who owns and runs the official website dedicated to his uncle’s memory (www.dirkbogarde.co.uk). In an illustrated talk he will be joined by John Coldstream, who, as literary editor of The Daily Telegraph from 1991 to 1999, commissioned much of Bogarde’s journalism and was later appointed his authorised biographer.
