Digital cinema is a new approach to making and showing films and is being embraced by film makers and cinemas all over the world. 35mm films are currently being phased out, and even re-issues of classic films are now digital. If the Chichester Cinema is to continue screening the range of films it has done in the past it needs a digital projector. The cost of this equipment is in the region of £50,000. We have already raised £5,170 from our annual quiz and raffle, and plan a series of events over the coming year to raise the full amount.
We are asking for your help. Our Artistic Director Roger Gibson and his wife Jo have kindly pledged £5,000 each, but any amount, no matter how small would be much appreciated. You will be able to monitor the fund’s progress on a thermometer that will be on display in the cinema’s foyer.
Your generosity in the past has enabled us to improve seating and update equipment and we look to you again to ensure that our future programmes continue to bring you the very best in World Cinema.

What is Digital Cinema Projection?
• Traditional 35mm film is replaced by an electronic copy
• Copy is contained on a high-capacity hard drive which is downloaded by the cinema by special technological equipment (Server).
• The technology delivers crystal clear, razor-sharp images for the ultimate in picture quality. Digital film is equal in picture quality but with a more stable image.
• The day's shows can be queued up much like a playlist on an MP3 player.
• Digital film does not get scratched or fade.
Advantages:
• The ability to continue the high standards of films screened at the cinema, future programming otherwise in jeopardy as few, if any distributors having film on 35mm.
• The cinema will also be able to show live entertainment such as opera, theatre or other events, a definite plus with our patrons.
• Currently, locally, these special events are only available at Cineworld and Bognor regis Picturedrome.
