Sir David Lean (1908-1991):
The Early Films 1942-1955
Asked to help Noel Coward bring to the screen his story of the wartime adventures of a British destroyer, Lean by now had the confidence to demand proper acknowledgement. He agreed to make the film only on condition that he received a joint credit for direction with Coward. The film's international success instantly propelled Lean into the first rank of Britain's directors. With Noel Coward, Bernard Miles, John Mills and Richard Attenborough. (New Restored Print)
