Made entirely in Eastbourne CREAM is Potter’s take on “those dances between what was and what is”. A young man goes off with his working class fiancé for a weekend and leaves her when summoned back by his domineering mother. In his absence she is seduced by a dance band singer.
Forty years later, the couple return to the same hotel and are haunted by the echoes of their earlier visit. Does their love survive? The film has great acting from Peggy Ashcroft, Lionel Jeffries, Faith Brook and Martin Shaw as the lizzardy crooner.
The young man is played by Peter Chelsom, now an acclaimed film director. CREAM was much honoured including BAFTA nominations and the film won the Prix Italia.
