Dreamchild, named in an Observer poll as one of the most underrated films of all time, is the story of the real life model for Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. As an elderly woman she is invited to New York to celebrate Carroll’s centenary, where her memories of that childhood association are stirred traumatically 70 years on. Coral Browne and Ian Holm give mesmerising performances and the Wonderland characters are re-created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop – their first assignment outside the Muppets!
