A summary of the plot is probably enough to explain why Brimstone only received its premier 11 years after completion. A devoted suburban couple are caring at home for their beautiful daughter who has been horribly brain damaged in a car accident. An ex-boyfriend arrives offering to share the burden of devotion and loving commitment.
He is actually the Devil and eventually rapes her back to consciousness. But the real demon is someone else. Brimstone and treacle is the most discomforting morality play ever conceived. Wonderful performances from Denholm Elliot, Michael Kitchen and Patricia Lawrence.
