Partly because of its elusiveness (DVD’s are rare, prints even more so, VHS copies crumbling) but also because of its sheer quality A Month in the Country has acquired authentic cult status. So this Festival screening is not to be missed.

The story, gentle and moving, is of two young men recovering from the horrors of WW1 during an idyllic summer in the English countryside.

“Colin Firth and Kenneth Branagh are talented young actors to watch for, especially Branagh who has great screen presence” - Variety Review 1987.

We conclude this retrospective with a final Q&A and welcome the director Pat O’Connor and producer Kenith Trodd for the final event
