Tony Palmer’s latest portrait firmly dispels the myth of Vaughan Williams as a cuddly folk song collector and recycler, and as well as exploring his musical legacy, the film focuses on his human side.
His frustration at living in a cosy market town, devotedly looking after his invalid wife, and the fury as well as the kindness and humanity which were all features of his character and in turn affected his music.
The film includes archive material and recently discovered interviews with the man himself, plus unexpected contributions from Harrison Birtwistle, John Adams and even Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys. Unmissable!
