A MIND FOR MOVIES - FILM QUIZ
- New Park Film Quiz

Mind for Movies Fundraiser success

A Mind for Movies, the Chichester Cinema at New Park’s Film Quiz, held at the Upper Brasserie, Chichester Festival Theatre on Saturday, 27 March, attracted no less than 120 quizzers. Organised by Walter Francisco, the cinema’s general manager, funds totaling £1,930 were raised in aid of digital equipment, an essential upgrade for the professional projection team to continue show the best films in future years once 35 mm films are no longer made. ‘This great sum really helped us on our way to realise this ambition,’ Walter said.

He and Richard Cupidi, WEA film tutor, devised the quiz with on-screen film clips and soundtracks for those attending, all tables, named after iconic figures in the film world: Steve McQueen, Marlon Brando, Orson Welles, Catherine Deneuve and others. The winning team of six including Dr Barbara Ely of Chichester won a trophy of a small replica of professional camera.

‘I was deeply impressed by the calibre of the quiz, Richard Cupidi an exceptionally knowledgeable and witty host, the whole evening’s entertainment really first class as was the setting and the food,’ Danielle Lockwood, a participant and trustee said. ‘I am a great admirer of the cinema and artistic director Roger Gibson’s ability to choose a remarkable mix of films from all over the world, the digital equipment a must for the cinema to progress.’

Walter Francisco added ‘We couldn't do without our many supporters who see this friendly, small cinema as a real bonus to living in the area. My thanks go to all the volunteers who helped put the show on, to Janet Bakose and her team at the Chichester Festival Theatre, to Richard Cupidi who gave his expertise for free and to Waitrose for their donation. We hope to make the quiz an annual event as it was such a great way for film lovers and cinema supporters to meet in a casual, fun setting.'
