Nick Moran’s new film is the gritty, rags-to-riches life story of a successful British writer.
After the critical success of his 2008 directorial debut ‘Telstar’, Nick Moran continues on a biographical theme with this inspirational biopic. With an all-star cast led by Rupert Friend - and based on the bestselling autobiography by crime writer Kevin Lewis – ‘The Kid’ is a moving depiction of a young man’s escape from his brutal upbringing on a rundown London council estate, to his emergence as a bestselling author of crime fiction.
Kevin Lewis never had a chance. Growing up on a poverty-stricken council estate, beaten and starved by his parents, bullied at school and abandoned by social services, his life was never his own. Even after he was put into care, he found himself out on the streets caught up in a criminal underworld that knew him as 'The Kid'. Yet Kevin survived to make a better life for himself and finally produce his heartbreaking and inspiring story, which became an international bestseller published in 2003.
The supporting cast includes Augustus Prew, William Finn Miller, Natasha McElhone, Con O’Neill, Ioan Gruffudd, James Fox and Shirley Ann Field.
